Born and Raised
Tonya grew up living rurally, outside of Topeka, Kansas. As she got older and moved out on her own, out into the city she wanted to go! After living in the Kansas City downtown area for years with her husband, Jason; riding mopeds, bartending at crowded bars, attending live shows, and being the king and queen of the city party life- they both longed for the country, again, to raise their family.
Anomaly
Don’t let the tattoos fool you. She may be tough and have an edge, but, really, she’s a big softy with a heart of gold. She loves Jesus, gardening, holistic health, her family, gemstones and minerals, canning, plants, all things crunchy and holistic, and farming.
Tonya is a walking anomaly. She may look one way, but she is another. She has been a pastor for her church and a in the leader. Tonya uses her tattoos and past testimony to reach new/young believers and shows them what Christ followers are-and what it means to love, and be loved, by God.
She has 6 young children with her husband, Jason, and runs a six acre farm 40 minutes south of Kansas City. She has homeschooled and has a degree in holistic health science.
Roles on the Farmstead
Tonya’s main roles she carries in her life are being the matriarch of her “mega family”, primary livestock keeper and farm hand, creator of all the fermented and canned food goods that come off the farm, handles all books and record keeping for her husband’s business, her business, and the farm’s. She also runs another business where she is primary designer and creator and shipping coordinator at Hyssop&Fig.
Legacy
Tonya has an intense desire to learn and grow. She believes she is called to learn everything she can, while on this earth. She lives to weave a full, amazing, inspiring legacy to be left for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to remember her by someday.
Wisdom and Knowledge
Tonya holds a degree in Holistic Health Science and has her Kansas and Missouri state license in massage therapy work. She designed this blog, primarily, to share her experiences (both good and bad) on the farm, the lessons learned farming and in life (in general), and a place to share all her recipes and knowledge with the rest of the world.
